Welcome to AIM Lab: Who, What and Why

March 26, 2025

Hi there, and welcome to AIM Lab!

AIM Lab is a collaborative space dedicated to exploring the intersection between meditation and artificial intelligence.

The spirit behind this project is playful, curious, and experimental, with a strong emphasis on community. My hope is that AIM Lab becomes a kind of playground, a place where anyone can come to discover and experiment with new ways of engaging with meditation through AI.

I'm really excited about the possibilities that AI offers to the world of meditation. At the same time, I also recognize there are potential risks and challenges. AIM Lab is here to explore and openly discuss both the opportunities and the concerns about this frontier.

About me

To introduce myself briefly: I'm a software developer with decades of experience in creating software, particularly websites. I’m also a meditator: meditation profoundly changed my life over a decade ago. AIM Lab is essentially the meeting place of my professional skills and my personal passion. It feels like the natural convergence of what I do well technically, and something I deeply care about.

At this point, I've only just launched the project, and honestly, I'm still not entirely sure what shape it will eventually take. But I do have a clear intention, a kind of compass, to guide the journey as we navigate this new terrain together.

AIM Lab is completely free, open source, and free from advertising.

However, building and maintaining it does come with costs. My long-term plan for the sustainability of AIM Lab involves my solopreneur venture, SoundGlade. The vision here is for SoundGlade to serve as a commercial side that supports AIM Lab. While AIM Lab itself will always remain an open, community-focused space, SoundGlade might eventually host more commercially-oriented ideas, such as subscription-based meditation apps or tools.

Transparency

I believe that for this to work well, transparency is key. That’s one reason I chose to make AIM Lab open source: anyone can look behind the scenes, see exactly how things work, or even replicate the whole project. Transparency also extends to the meditations created here: everything generated on AIM Lab is public-first. Anyone can create meditations, store them on our servers, and share them freely, benefiting the entire community. This way, any experiments or discoveries become collective resources, enriching everyone involved.

I have plenty of ideas for new tools and features, but I'm even more curious about what the community will find valuable. Building tools that help people discover new possibilities has always been a deep motivator for me. I genuinely love creating things that can benefit others.

Getting Started

So, I warmly invite you to join me in this exploration. There are several ways you can get started right now. For example, you can use the Meditation Composer to create guided meditations using meditation scripts generated by AI chatbots like ChatGPT. Then, you can listen to these creations with our Meditation Player, which itself is quite an intriguing tool.

I've also written a couple of articles to help you dive deeper. One article is a straightforward how-to guide explaining exactly how to create your own meditations with the composer. Another piece, perhaps even more fascinating, shares my first set of creative explorations. Here I outline some imaginative ways we can use these tools, which I hope will inspire you to experiment for yourself.

Feedback

That's about it for now! I'm genuinely curious to hear your feedback. Please feel free to reach out with messages or comments. I'm also planning to set up a Reddit forum soon so we can discuss and share our discoveries more easily.

I hope you enjoy exploring AIM Lab. I’m excited to see what we’ll create together!
